Become an Alumni Volunteer!

Whether you are looking to engage with fellow alumni, connect with students, or volunteer within the greater Hardrocker community, there are many ways to get involved. Below are opportunities both on- and off-campus to reconnect with the Hardrocker community and make a difference.

Ways to Get Involved

Write a Postcard to an Incoming Freshman

In 2020, alumni volunteers began a program to write notes to newly accepted students, letting them know why Mines should be their number one choice to further their education. Our alumni volunteers stepped up to answer the call and wrote over 500 postcards!

This year we want to reach 1,000 incoming students. We encourage alumni to share a memory or write a note about how South Dakota Mines helped launch their careers. This is a great way to make a difference in a student's life as they choose a college. Become An Area Chapter Chair

Stay connected with your Hardrocker family through local Area Chapters! Area Chapters exist across the country to allow you to stay connected, network, socialize and reminisce. Connect with fellow alumni in your area, wherever you live. Alumni are proud to be graduates from South Dakota Mines and want to get together with other alumni to have fun, to hear what their friends are doing and to support fellow alumni through networking. As an alumnus/a of Mines you already belong. You just need to show up to events and enjoy being with other South Dakota Mines alumni. Email alumni@sdsmt.edu for more information.

Be an Alumni Speaker

Looking to share your passion and with your department, students and other alumni? Being an alumni speaker is a great way to give back your time and talent. If you are interested in sharing your passion and becoming a alumni speaker, email alumni@sdsmt.edu for more information. To learn how to become a speaker, fill out the speaker interest form.

Host a Welcome to the Mines Family Party

Mines Advancement Fund

The Mines Advancement Fund supports the greatest needs of our students and faculty, including scholarships, department resources, facilities updates, industry partnerships, and more. With every dollar gifted to the Mines Advancement Fund, the Center for Alumni Relations & Advancement raises an average of $9 more to support departments, scholarships, and programs.
