Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center
Special presentations this day for our alumni and families. Open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
From the bountiful flora and fauna that supported indigenous populations for millennia, to the creation of the deepest gold mine in the Northern Hemisphere, to Nobel Prize-winning science, to secrets of the universe still being uncovered at the Sanford Underground Research Facility — through exhibits, pop-up activities, and conversation with our knowledgeable staff.
Black Hills Mining Museum
Special Rates: Adults $13.00, Children special rate by age, and children under 6 free.
Tour guides will escort you on a fascinating tour of our recreated underground gold mine, created by more than 140 Homestake miners and former mining employees over 30 years ago. This realistic exhibit is the only comprehensive look at both early-day and modern underground mining in the Black Hills, telling the story of the Western Hemisphere’s deepest gold mine. Join other alumni and their young families at the Old Storybook Island Shelter at noon. Bring your own lunch and enjoy the playground while catching up with fellow alumni.
